2019 Topps MLB Series One Baseball Review

Topps MLB Series One just dropped and I got my hands on a hobby box to get a first-hand look at what’s going on in 2019 baseball trading cards.

There’s nothing quite like opening up some Topps baseball cards. Hoping to find your favorite MLB player, collecting a set of your favorite team… not to mention pulling an autograph or game-used relic card.

Topps was kind enough to send me a hobby box of their latest baseball release – and I immediately felt like a kid again. It was incredible.

The artwork on each card was beautiful and there were also inserts featuring the 1984 Topps Baseball design. Those were a fun throwback that featured both current and former players.

Each hobby box contains 24 sealed packs and each pack contains 14 cards. So you can expect around 330 cards per box, which is a huge number. That includes base cards, Greatest Players Of All-Time inserts, Topps 1984 inserts and short printed parallels.

Each box also contains one ‘hit’ – a card with a higher value than most, typically containing game-used memorabilia or an autograph.

In my box, I pulled a Gleyber Torres game-used bat card that was numbered to /150. Pretty cool stuff, even if I’m a Red Sox fan.

Overall

Overall, I’d say this is a very fun product and well worth the $69.99 price tag. If you have kids, this box is a must-have. With 24 packs, there’s a great incentive to do well on a school test, or do their chores. If you don’t have kids, no worries – this is still well worth it. I ended up with about 12 short-printed cards, about 25 rookie cards and a good number of inserts – all on top of the Torres bat card.

That’s a ton of value. Plus, there’s a reason Topps is still the king of baseball cards – because they’re the best.
