Understandably, the San Diego Padres are excited about signing Manny Machado to a long term deal. The problem is that the deal is not yet official.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Manny Machado had signed a ten year, $300 million deal with the San Diego Padres. The Padres had been a late entrant into the Machado Sweepstakes before surprisingly coming away with the prize of free agency. Suddenly, there was excitement amongst the Padres for the coming season.
Understandably, that excitement also extended to the fanbase. A new Machado jersey would be the perfect way to celebrate the signing, and the Padres were ready. Those new Machado jerseys, bearing his familiar number 13, came available in the team store on Wednesday.
The problem is, the Machado signing is not yet official. He still needs to pass his physical, and put the pen to the paper. Until that happens, he is not yet a member of the Padres. As such, San Diego pulled those jerseys from the team store.

Just because those jerseys were pulled does not mean that anything has changed. Machado is still going to the Padres, unless something bizarre happens during his physicals. The Padres know Machado is coming, Machado knows he is signing there, and the baseball universe knows the deal is coming. It is just a matter of putting the pen to the paper.
Until that happens though, he is not officially a member of the Padres. While fans could order custom made Machado jerseys, the team cannot sell the official products in their stores. At least, for the next couple of days.
Don’t worry – those new Manny Machado San Diego Padres jerseys will be available soon enough. His deal just needs to become official before the jerseys can be offered for sale.
