Manny Machado had a few things to say about his time with the Baltimore Orioles.

If you’re a Baltimore Orioles fan, you’ve probably heard the comments from the former third baseman/shortstop by now Manny Machado. On Tuesday, Machado decided to give his two cents about his time in Baltimore.  Of course like Orioles’ fans will attest that “Manny will be Manny” and he didn’t disappoint as he cast shade on the organization that gave him his shot in the show.

“The Dodgers last year, they showed me some love,” said Machado to Stephanie Apstien. “The Orioles drafted me. I did a lot for that community, I did a lot for the state and they didn’t show me a little bit of love. It is what it is, But going over to L.A., L.A giving up a lot of prospects for me, that kind of shows you what I meant to them, which is amazing.”

Machado’s statements blindsided a few around the Baltimore area who rooted him on for these past 9 years. Moreover,  local sports outlets that have often given him a pass in exchange for his all star invites, golden and platinum gloves and spectacular plays. However, for the rest of the fans around the Baltimore area there really isn’t much of a surprise to these responses, because it’s just “Manny being Manny”.

More from Call to the Pen

Machado’s time in Baltimore was everything but despised. Fans overlooked the lack of baserunning effort, the comments he made about not being a hustler, the gray area dirty plays such as the bat throw, as well as more recently Christian Yelich calling Machado a dirty player with his stint with the Dodgers.

To add, the former staff gave Machado the ability to play out of his position that inconvenienced the infield defense as well as placed other players out of their position.  Some fans could see this coming, however, most were busy saying he was better than Brooks Robinson which was absurd within its own.

To make a statement that Baltimore did not love him enough or support him makes very little sense and has the fanbase scratching their head.

Whether he is aware of it or not, he received the support he said was lacking here. The issue was one way or the other, his era in Baltimore was coming to an end and is now over. He is now a Padre and on top of that their issue. The season will be interesting for those who are interested in following him to the west coast and see his career. The journey will be interesting to see how the media and fanbase deals with another long single that could have been a double.

The Baltimore Orioles have now turned a new page into a new era and so should the $300 million third baseman.
