After making a splash by signing Bryce Harper yesterday, the Philadelphia Phillies may not be done.

The Philadelphia Phillies have had the type of offseason that would make any fanbase proud. They added a needed arm in the bullpen with David Robertson, and filled out their lineup with the additions of Andrew McCutchen, J.T. Realmuto, and Jean Segura. Adding Bryce Harper to the fold was the exclamation point on what had already been a solid offseason for the Phillies even before that signing.

And yet, the Phillies might not be done making moves. They are reportedly interested in adding either Dallas Keuchel or Craig Kimbrel, if not both, if they were willing to sign a short term contract.

Right now, the expectations for the Phillies have changed. Just reaching the postseason may not be enough any longer. The front office and ownership had promised to build a contender, and the additions made are certainly a move in that direction. The future is now.

Their interest in both Keuchel and Kimbrel, regardless of whether or not it manifests into a contract, furthers that commitment. Keuchel would solidify a rotation that has several question marks in the final three spots, likely pushing Vince Velasquez to the bullpen. As Keuchel would likely slot behind Jake Arrieta in the Phillies rotation, he would instantly become one of the best third starters in the game.

Kimbrel would be more of a luxury item for the Phillies. They have a strong trio at the end of the game already, with the aforementioned Robertson, Hector Neris, and Seranthony Dominguez. Adding Kimbrel would give the bullpen even more depth, potentially making the Phillies relief corps the deepest in the majors.

Of course, there is the matter of actually signing either player. The rumor mills have been quiet thus far regarding Keuchel and Kimbrel, although that could change as the beginning of the season gets closer. Should the market change, or their demands come down, the Phillies could be waiting.

The Philadelphia Phillies may not be done spending money just yet. If Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel are willing to take a short term contract, the Phillies could be their landing spot.
