In exciting MLB news, the iconic baseball movie The Sandlot is on its way to the small screen.

You’ll be able to catch your favorite characters as adults when the show hits a yet unnamed streaming service. In more MLB news, a Sandlot movie prequel is also in development.

This exciting news was shared originally on The Rain Delay podcast, but also through several traditional media sources, including Today, which was also where the cast reunited a year ago to celebrate the 25 anniversary of the popular film. According to the announcement, the show will be set in the 1980s with the original cast playing parents. The date of the debut has yet to be announced.

Imagining how the children of The Sandlot would behave as parents is enough to create serious anticipation. Considering how much they loved playing baseball, the odds are good that at least one of them will coach a team. With the current state of parental involvement in youth baseball, the writers should have nearly an unlimited stream of ideas to parody.

According to the podcast, the show will include the characters that fans love: Smalls, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez, Ham, Squints, and Yeah-Yeah. Hopefully, the show will also feature a few Easter eggs from the original film, like the catch phrases and references to swimming pools, chewing tobacco, and frightening dogs.

Just thinking about this series makes me wonder what the kids are like as adults. I’m going out on a limb and making superlative predictions about The Sandlot gang as parents.
