As Opening Day gets ever closer, and the 2019 Opening Series is set to take place in a few days, we break out our preseason MLB power rankings.

It has been a strange offseason, one that seemingly does not feel complete as we prepare our preseason MLB power rankings.

The Opening Series in Japan may be fast approaching, and Opening Day is next week, but there are still several top free agents available. Neither Dallas Keuchel nor Craig Kimbrel have been signed, as both are languishing away in free agency. Gio Gonzalez also remains unsigned, but there has at least been some movement in his market.

That both of those players remain available speaks volumes about two different strategies this offseason. There are teams that essentially refused to sign anyone, as they are engaging in a race to the bottom, tanking in a desperate attempt to collect as high of a draft pick as possible. Then, there are those teams who refuse to surpass the luxury tax, hoping that what they have will be enough.

With both of those stances, there are plenty of teams with holes on their rosters. There are also other teams that proved to be patient, waiting out the free agent market to upgrade their rosters. At this point, the National League appears to be a tougher division overall than the top heavy American League, but we can only look at what has been done thus far.

With that in mind, let us take a look at the first MLB power rankings of the season!
