The New York Yankees are off to a bad start to the season. They’re not only losing games, but they’re also losing players to the IL too. Why the Yanks might retaliate after Tigers plunk Luke Voit.

The New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers have history. In August of 2017, both teams took part in a brawl that resulted in the ejection of eight different players.

Sure that was close to two years ago, and most of the players on the 2017 Tigers are no longer there. Sometimes, however, all it takes is a small spark to create a massive fire. That little spark may have come when Tigers reliever Joe Jimenez plunked Luke Voit in the 8th inning of the series opener between both teams.

Sure, the plunking, which took place in the 8th inning of a game the Tigers were trailing in, wasn’t intentional. Tell that to Voit, however, who was clearly peeved by the hit-by-pitch, uttering “f–cking fat f–ck” to Jimenez.

Voit’s reaction might be due in part to the fact that the Yankees are dealing with a case of the injury bug. After winning over the first base job over Greg Bird this Spring, Voit quite possibly doesn’t want to risk losing his spot with the organization.

The Yanks have seen two players end up in the hospital after being drilled in the wrist like Voit was in the past. The team can’t afford to have a big bopper like Voit on the IL, especially after Giancarlo Stanton went down with a biceps strain earlier this week.

With the Yanks facing against the Yankees today at 4:05 PM EST, it’ll be interesting to see if Voit’s teammates retaliate.

The Yankees called up Jonathan Loaisiga to start today’s game. Could plunking be the spark a 2-4 Yankee team needs to get fired up? We shall see.
