On Wednesday, against the Miami Marlins, Mets starter Jacob deGrom joined a short list of pitchers ever to punch out at least 14 batters and hit a home run in a game.

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom may have had one of the greatest days in baseball history. Not only did he tie a 51-year-old record set by the great Bob Gibson, but he also joined a short list of just NINE starting pitchers to strike out at least 14 batters while also hitting a home run in a game in the modern.

In honor of this huge achievement, I have decided to compile a list of all of the MLB pitchers in history to ever accomplish this feat. The list spans 94-years and different eras in baseball.

In compiling this list, a few things stood out to me.

  1. The achievement occurred most in the 1970s when three different pitchers did it.
  2. The New York Mets are the only team to have featured multiple pitchers to ever accomplish the feat.
  3. Jacob deGrom is only the 2nd pitcher to ever do it since 1977.

The only other pitcher to have ever accomplished the feat just so happens to have homered on Tuesday night. I’m talking about none other than Madison Bumgarner.
