It’s no surprise that the New York Yankees (aka “Bronx Bombers”) are heavily reliant on the long-ball. This is evidenced by the team’s latest broken record.
When New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez blasted a solo home run against the Baltimore Orioles in the 3rd inning, he helped to set a new team record of 18 straight runs scored via the long-ball. According to Bleacher Report, the previous record was set in 1977.
All of this without arguably the team’s best power hitter Giancarlo Stanton.

The record was snapped when in the 6th inning of the affair between the Yankees and Orioles, Clint Frazier singled to center, driving in Gleyber Torres. This extended the Yankee lead over the O’s to 5-0.
Interestingly enough, earlier in the game, Frazier and Torres kicked things off when both homered in the 2nd inning scoring the teams 16th and 17th consecutive Yankee runs via the homer.
Last year, the “Bronx Bombers” became the most prolific home run hitting team in MLB history, hitting a record-breaking 267 team home runs. In fact, 19 different members of the organization hit a homer last season, a record-breaking 12 of them hit 10 or more. No player exceeded Stanton’s total of 38 HR.
This year, eight different “Bombers” have homered. The team’s starting catcher Gary Sanchez leads the team with 5 HR.
Surprisingly, the Yankees are nowhere close to the league-leading Seattle Mariners, who entering Sunday have 24 team HR. After Gary’s record-breaking HR in the 3rd inning, the “Bombers” only have 16.
Like last season, the Yanks are heavily reliant on the long-ball. Entering this series against the O’s, the “Bombers” had only hit 7 HRs and sported a 2-4 record. Including the three hit in this match, in this series alone the Yankees are looking at 9 HR and counting. Not surprisingly, the result looks likely to be a sweep of the Birds.
