With the first full week of the 2019 MLB season in the books, let’s take a look around the league.

At any time, it is easy to overreact to how a player or a team is performing. An extended slump can spell the end of the universe, the playoff hopes dashed due to their struggles. For a player, that slow start is a sign that they either no longer have the skill to play in the majors, or that the young prospects simply are not ready for the grind of the major leagues.

That tendency to overreact is even more prevalent when it comes to the first week of the season. Slumps are magnified by the lack of previous stats, as are cold streaks for a team. Losing eight of ten games in July may be concerning, but it is easier to overlook than a 2-8 start to begin the year.

With the first full 2019 MLB season having already come to an end, it is time to take a look around the game. There are some performances that have been remarkable, with players looking like superstars and teams appearing unstoppable. Then, there are those players and teams that have struggled tremendously, complete disasters at the start of the year.

Of course, some of these slow starts, or torrid beginnings, will prove to last for the 2019 MLB season. Let us take a look around the league at some possible overreactions from Opening Week.
