Trevor Story, SS

After having a career-year, Trevor Story looks to continue his success in 2019 and then try to establish the market for young shortstops.  In 2018, he won a Silver Slugger Award and made the NL All-Star team. He hit 37 home runs, 108 RBI, stole 27 bases, and batted .291 through 157 games.

Story was an absolute dominant force for the Colorado Rockies. He helped lead the Rockies to victory in the National League Wild Card game.

Story proved that he is both a power and speed threat. He was on the cusp of the elite 30-30 season. Only 26, Story is a key part of the Rockies’ future. Star third baseman Nolan Arenado and All-Star outfielder Charlie Blackmon already received their extensions. The Rockies have shown that they will extend their young talent, so an extension for Story next off season makes sense.

Whatever value he receives will set the market for a plethora of young shortstops such as,  the Cleveland Indians Francisco Lindor, the Los Angeles Dodgers Corey Seager, and the Cubs’ Javier Baez. All of these shortstops are free agents in 2022 but are all potential extension candidates, looking for a MLB contract at least as much as Xander Bogearts extension with Boston.

Story has a strong chance to join Blackmon and Arenado as parts of Colorado’s future.
