The Chicago White Sox are signing another member of the Tatis family, as they have inked international prospect Elijah Tatis.

Back in 2015, the Chicago White Sox signed a young shortstop out of the Dominican Republic in Fernando Tatis Jr. A year later, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for James Shields. While Shields served as a back of the rotation arm, Tatis Jr emerged as one of the top prospects in the game, a key piece in the Padres rebuild.

Well, take two. The White Sox are once again signing a member of the Tatis family; this time, agreeing to terms with Elijah Tatis, the younger brother of Tatis Jr.

That deal included a $500,000 signing bonus, which will come out of the White Sox 2019-20 international signing pool. Tatis is expected to begin his professional career in the White Sox entry in the Dominican Summer League this year.

More from Call to the Pen

This Tatis is expected to be more akin to his father, Fernando Tatis, than his brother. According to reports, he possesses a strong throwing arm with a great deal of accuracy and intriguing power. Scouts have mentioned the way the ball jumps off of his bat, leading to those comparisons to the senior Tatis.

The White Sox also made another legacy signing earlier in the offseason. They had signed Enoy Jimenez as well, a 17 year old infielder who is the younger brother of top prospect Eloy Jimenez. If Enoy does end up making the majors, the brothers could end up becoming the fifth set of brothers to play at the same time for the White Sox.

Unfortunately, that will not be the case with Tatis. That is, unless the White Sox end up trading him away to the Padres in a deal. However, given the lack of success that the previous made involving a member of the Tatis family had, another trade seems unlikely.

The Chicago White Sox have signed another Tatis family member, this time agreeing to terms with Elijah Tatis. Hopefully, his time in the White Sox system is more memorable than that of his brother.
