Topps Gypsy Queen returns in 2019, once again providing a great value, unique look and a ton of fun. Here’s a review for the latest baseball product.
If you’re like me, you enjoy baseball cards. Maybe you grew up sticking some in the spokes of your bicycle, or maybe you had a friend, sibling or parent who was a serious collector.
Or maybe you stumbled onto the hobby and fell in love with it.
In any event, regardless of how you got into card collecting, you know the name Topps. Topps has been the king of baseball cards for decades now. They provide items for collectors of all levels. Just starting out? Topps Baseball Series One is a great place to start.
Looking for crazy, super-high end hits? Tier One might be for you.
Somewhere in the middle is Gypsy Queen. On one hand, I think it’s got a great price point to jump in ($110 per hobby box). On the other, it provides a unique assortment of inserts and short prints – plus each box comes with two on-card autographs.
Topps was kind enough to provide me with one hobby box of Gypsy Queen to review. And I’m happy to report that it’s well worth the price.
To start, Gypsy Queen’s got a very unique art style. A mix of tarot cards and retro – if that makes sense.
On second thought, just take a look for yourself.
So here’s the breakdown. Each hobby box comes with 24 packs, plus one box-topper bonus pack of three Chrome cards. Each pack comes with 8 cards in it.
There are 300 cards in the base set, plus there are short print parallels (numbered to 250, 50, 10 and 1). On top of that, there are inserts in the form of Fortune Teller mini-cards. Those feature purple borders and are something you don’t get from any other card line.
Then, as you can see above, there are plenty of autographs to be found. Two on-card autographs per box, some of which are game-used relic cards and others are booklet autographs featuring the signatures from multiple players.
Overall
As a whole, Gypsy Queen might be my favorite baseball product of 2019. The unique art style is very fun and the allure of getting two on-card autographs is too good to pass up.
Nathan Cunningham had one box of Topps Gypsy Queen provided to him for the purpose of creating this post.
