Baltimore Orioles: Chris Davis gets his first hit of the year
Finally, the nightmare is over. Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davi has recorded his first hit of the year.
It’s over. It’s finally over. After 210 days and 62 plate appearances, the nightmare that was Chris Davis‘ hitless streak has finally come to an end. The Baltimore Orioles first baseman has achieved that elusive first hit.
The timing could not have been better. Facing Rick Porcello with the bases loaded and one out in the second, Davis lashed a two run single over the shift, ending his time in a personal hell that few could understand.
Davis had shown signs that he was ready to snap out of this slump. He had hit the ball hard over the past week, including his pinch hit lineout against Ryan Brasier on Friday night. Eventually, one of these balls would fall in.

Now that Davis has recorded his first hit since September 14, perhaps he will be able to get back on track. Despite his struggles over the past few years, Davis does have a career .236/.318/.467 batting line with 283 home runs. While he may never live up to that extension, Davis has been a respectable power threat in the middle of the Orioles lineup.
Getting that one hit could make a tremendous difference. With the proverbial monkey off of his back, Davis may be able to be more relaxed at the plate, ready to contribute this season. It may not be a surprise to see him go on a bit of a hitting streak, especially given the way he was hitting the ball over the previous few days.
Sometimes, all it takes is that first hit for everything to fall into place. Davis can stop thinking about those hitless nights, and focus on the success of that base knock. Finally, for the first time in 2019, Davis has a hit.
Chris Davis’ nightmare is over. The Baltimore Orioles first baseman finally ended his hitless streak.
