A pair of Kansas City Royals speedsters are willing to take on Atlanta Braves phenomenon The Freeze.

The Kansas City Royals made a conscious decision this offseason to embrace speed in a way that no other team had. Defending AL stolen base leader Whit Merrifield was already entrenched on the roster, as was the dynamic Adalberto Mondesi. Kansas City doubled down on the speed factor, adding Billy Hamilton and bringing back Terrance Gore, as they looked to cause havoc on the basepaths.

it is a strategy that had worked before. During their World Series years, the Royals were known for their contact, speed, and defense. With Dayton Moore looking to accelerate the rebuild, it made sense that he would go back to what had worked before.

While the Royals may be the fastest team in baseball, they may not have the fastest person employed by a major league squad. That distinction could belong to The Freeze, a sprinter who wears a body suit and races a fan during Atlanta Braves home games. Despite giving his opponents a head start, he is typically able to defeat any who dare challenge him.

That title of the fastest man in baseball may finally be determined when the Royals head to Atlanta at the end of June. Both Hamilton and Gore stated that they intend to race The Freeze during the series, setting up what should be a fun race to watch. This time, the Braves sprinter may not want to give his opponents a head start.

This type of race could actually be a fun aspect to the All Star festivities. Get the eight fastest players in the game, and have them race against one another during batting changes in the Home Run Derby. It would be a chance for other players to shine as well, and add another level of interest.

For now, we will just have to wait until the Kansas City Royals face off against the Atlanta Braves. Then, we will see two of the fastest men in the game, Billy Hamilton and Terrance Gore, take on The Freeze.
