On the heels of his epic hitless streak, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has gone on a tear.

It was not that long ago that Chris Davis was all over the baseball news. The Baltimore Orioles first baseman had gone 210 days, and 62 plate appearances, between base hits. Finally, with a base hit on April 13 against Rick Porcello, Davis’ nightmare came to an end.

It was thought that once the monkey was off of Davis’ back, he would be able to relax once again at the plate. Even towards the end of that hitless streak, he had been hammering the ball, only with nothing to show for it. That one hit may have been all that Davis needed to get back on track and be a formidable part of the Orioles lineup once more.

That has proven to be the case. Davis was 3-5 on the 13th, hitting two doubles and driving in four runs. Since then, he has not stopped hitting, as he has seven hits, with three doubles and a homer, in his last 17 at bats. In that time, he has driven in six runs, and just missed belting another home run on Saturday when he was robbed by Eddie Rosario.

While Davis is not to suddenly be confused with Ted Williams, he has lifted his batting line to a point where it is not entirely hideous. Yes, his .140/.232/.260 batting line is not what the Orioles would like to see, but it is a sight better than where he was just over a week ago. He is also no longer the worst hitter in the game, as he has outproduced players like Jackie Bradley Jr.and Zack Cozart with the bat.

Maybe it is just a random hot streak. Perhaps, at this time next week, we will be discussing how Davis is in the midst of another horrific slump, unable to get anything going with the bat. But for now, he is more relaxed at the plate, seeing the ball well, and getting results.

There is still a long way to go in the season. And the Orioles still need a lot more from Davis in order to salvage any value from that seven year extension that he had signed. However, at this point, the hot streak that Davis is on is the type of positive that both the player and the team needed.

Don’t look now, but Chris Davis is on a hot streak. The Baltimore Orioles first baseman definitely deserves one after his horrific 0-54 slump.
