The Boston Red Sox emphatically swept a 3 game series against the Seattle Mariners by scoring 34 runs over the weekend.
The Boston Red Sox, along with the Houston Astros have been the hottest teams in the Majors over the last 10 games, each going 8-2 with 5 game winning streaks.
They outscored the Mariners over the weekend, 34-8 in the three games and the best part of the series is that multiple players contributed.
The biggest contribution of all came from Rafael Devers, who went 9-for-14 with 7 RBI’s, scoring 4 times. One of my favorite stats is that he only struck out 1 time. In what seems to be an increasingly home run or strikeout league, this is a sight for sore eyes.
With his great weekend, Devers is now hitting .336 with a .408 OBP and 21 RBI’s on the season.

Another good sign was Boston’s young 2nd baseman, Michael Chavis breaking out of his slump on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with 5 RBI’s. He had gone 0-for-23 in his prior 5 games.
Mitch Moreland also had a great series going 4-for-7 in two games played with 5 RBI’s and 4 runs scored.
Lost in the 3 game set will be the pitching performances simply because of the sheer number of runs.. The standout pitching performance was turned in Friday by Eduardo Rodriguez, who went 7 innings, allowed 0 runs, gave up 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5.
Rick Porcello and Hector Velazquez also turned in decent performances on the hill.
The key takeaway from this series and the last 10 games, is that Boston has seemed to right the ship after a horrendously unexpected start to the season. They now sit 3 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays and 2 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees.
With their weekend barrage of runs scored, they only trail the Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros in total runs scored.
With the way the Red Sox are playing, the AL East will be another compelling three-team race to the end of the year.
