Arizona Diamondbacks minor leaguer Yasmany Tomas went off for four home runs in a 25-8 victory over the Tacoma Rainers in a Pacific Coast League matchup.

Arizona Diamondbacks minor leaguer Yasmany Tomas finished the day going 5-for-6, scoring 4 times and driving in 8 runs.  His outstanding performance raised his batting average this year to .311 with a .341 on-base percentage and a .598 slugging percentage.

Reno, the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate, had the bats going all around in the win yesterday, hitting a combined 10 home runs.  Matt Szczur hit for the cycle and Kevin Cron, the minor league home run leader, also went deep twice, going 3-for-4 scoring 5 times and driving in 6 runs.

Tomas, who hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2017 is trying to make his case to rejoin the big league team.  The hard thing is the Diamondbacks’ outfield is pretty set especially with the arrival of Adam Jones.

With Jones in right field, Ketel Marte in center field and David Peralta in left field, that doesn’t leave any room for Tomas.

Plus it doesn’t help the other outfielders on the roster are smaller and faster on the base-paths, making it easier for D-backs’ manager Torey Lovullo to utilize them in a myriad of ways.

Tomas made his major league debut on April 15, 2015, with much fanfare, coming over from Cuba.  He has never quite lived up to the hype that came over with him and unfortunately that is bearing fruit in the fact he is stuck at the Triple-A level and has been for the past three seasons.

However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  He is having the best year of his career through 42 games int he minors.  If he can continue to put up this kind of numbers, his success will mount pressure on the D-backs’ front office to find a spot for him.
