The New York Yankees defeated the San Diego Padres by a score of 5-2 thanks to three home runs and a great effort by the bullpen. Here are some takeaways for both teams.
New York Yankees
1. The Bullpen is Good
Chad Green started on the mound for the Yankees, and he struck out the side to begin the game. David Hale pitched four solid innings, giving up the only runs of the game on a pair of home runs.
Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Zack Britton, and Aroldis Chapman combined to give up just three hits and struck out four to lead the Yankees to a win.
2. Outfield Doing Their Part
Clint Frazier and Brett Gardner both homered to give the Yankees the 3-2 lead that they would never relinquish in the second inning.
Cameron Maybin got a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to give Aroldis Chapman a bigger cushion and then made a nice catch in the ninth on an Eric Hosmer lineout.

San Diego Padres
1. Matt Strahm Was Solid Once Again
Matt Strahm continued to pitch well on Memorial Day, as he settled down after giving up the two home runs to Frazier and Gardner in the 2nd.
He struck out 10 and walked just two in six strong innings. He was able to command his fastball up in the zone and was very aggressive with the slider down and into Yankees right-handed batters.
2. Offense Became Cold
After scoring 19 runs and hitting 7 homers to rout the Blue Jays on Saturday, the offense only scored one run on Sunday and two on Monday.
Josh Naylor doubled in Hunter Renfroe and Austin Hedges also doubled to score Naylor in the second inning.
After that, the San Diego offense managed to get only three hits the rest of the game.
Both of these teams square off again tomorrow night in the Bronx as Eric Lauer opposes Masahiro Tanaka.
