Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen is out for the season after tearing his ACL in a game against the San Diego Padres on Monday.

The Philadelphia Phillies will certainly miss the veteran leadership that former MVP Andrew McCutchen brings to the team.

The injury happened in a fluke accident during a game against the San Diego Padres as he was getting back to first base to avoid a tag in the first inning.

When he left the game, the severity of his injury wasn’t known and he left the stadium on crutches, but once this tweet appeared from McCutchen, everyone knew the prognosis couldn’t be good.

The Phillies would also go on to lose the game but losing McCutchen hurts them more.  He agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract at the beginning of the year.

He was hitting .256/.378/.457 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI’s in 262 plate appearances.  He was also leading the league in walks with 43.

The Phillies lose their leadoff hitter and more importantly veteran leadership in the clubhouse.  His production will be difficult to replace, but his presence will be next to impossible to replace.

The 2013 MVP and five-time All-Star brought countless experience, knowledge, and leadership that Philadelphia will miss immensely as they contend for a title after signing Bryce Harper this offseason.

When the Philadelphia Phillies placed McCutchen on the injured list, they called up Adam Haseley from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Haseley has no major league experience but is batting .275/.358/.466 with 7 home runs and 23 RBI’s between AAA and AA.  It will definitely be awesome making his major league debut here shortly, but he has to be feeling the pressure to replace McCutchen.

I hope that McCutchen can come back from this injury as he has always been a fun player to watch, but with him being 32 years old, you have to wonder if he can come back from such an injury.  Here’s hoping that he does and can contribute next year.
