On Tuesday, the Yankees officially ended their series win streak at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays. They now face their first big test of the season.

Prior to last night’s game against the lowly Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees had been riding an unprecedented streak of NINE series wins. Now, after losing to the Jays in Toronto, not only has that streak officially snapped, but the Yanks are now in the midst of another streak. This one of the negative variety.

Entering the season, on paper, the Yanks had the best team in MLB. After losing what seemed like every star to injury, however, many expected the team to struggle through the season.

Fortunately for the Yanks, their role players stepped up in a big way. So much so that despite this 3-game losing streak, the Yankees still hold the third best record in the AL, fourth in MLB.

Over the last three games, the Yankees have scored 15 runs combined. An average of 5 runs per game, this should be enough to squeeze out a win or two. Especially considering that their starters have done what they needed to keep their team in the game.

The problem lies with the team’s biggest strength: the bullpen

Over the last 3-games, the Yankees bullpen has allowed 12 ER in 8.1 IP (13.34 ERA). Luis Cessa alone has allowed SEVEN of those earned runs. His season stats have in turn multiplied to a 5.33 ERA, 5.38 FIP, and 1.481 WHIP.

Entering tonight’s game, the Yankes will look to snap this minuscule losing streak and avoid their first 3-game series sweep since the Houston Astros back in April. To do this, the team will have to rely on a veteran starter in J.A. Happ who has underwhelmed this season.
