A ranking of the 25 longest home runs struck by MLB players during the past week. The list is headed by Ryan McMahon’s 479-foot bomb Thursday night.

The Colorado Rockies played a home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend, so naturally, the smoke from that series heavily populates the week’s list of longest home runs in MLB.

Would you expect anything else from a series in Colorado between the majors’ winningest team and one of its most prolific run-producers?

Through the series’ first three games, the Rockies managed to out-score the Dodgers by an average of 9-8 while winning two of the three. From a standpoint of pure power, the series also produced 13 home runs, three of those traveling at least 430 feet through the thin air of Denver.

A 479-foot cannon shot rendered Thursday night by Ryan McMahon off Yimi Garcia measured 479 feet, making it the week’s longest bomb. One night later, Max Muncy took Carlos Estevez deep to the tune of 464 feet and Alex Verdugo extracted a 439-footer out of Antonio Senzatela, those working out to be the week’s fourth and 17th longest.

More from Call to the Pen

The average distance of the 25 longest home runs this week was 446.44 feet. That’s actually a  comedown from the more than 451-foot average of just a week ago.

Some of the game’s biggest names muscled up this week. Bryce Harper, he of the 13-year contract with the Phillies, got off a 448-foot home run against New York’s Zach Wheeler. Giancarlo Stanton got back on the field long enough to produce a 445-footer off Toronto’s Derek Law, and Manny Machado recorded a 455-foot shot off Jimmy Yacacbonis during the Padres’ visit to Machado’s old home in Baltimore.

Fernando Tatis Jr. and Eloy Jimenez represented the coming generation. On Saturday night, Tatis unleashed a 440-footer off the Cardinals, Dominic Leone.  Jimenez’ 433-foot home run against Minnesota’s Blake Parker that same night was, by Jimenez’s prolific standards, only ordinary, but it still measured out as the week’s 23rd longest.

Ranking on the list is determined by the distance a home run travels as recorded by Baseball Savant. Where tikes exist, they are broken by exit velocity. The hardest hit home run this week was Travis Shaw’s missile struck last Sunday against Anthony DeSclafini. It went out at 113 mph and landed 465 feet later.
