Los Angeles Angels: Star pitcher Tyler Skaggs Dies Before Matchup with Rangers

The Los Angeles Angels released a statement saying starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs has passed away in Texas. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family, and the entire Angels organization.

On Monday afternoon the Los Angeles Angels tweeted out that 27-year-old starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs had passed away.

Here is the Angels statement:

“It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed way earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement as well. “I am deeply saddened by today’s tragedy in Texas. All of us at Major League Baseball extend our deepest condolences to Tyler’s wife Carli, their family, their friends and all of his Angels’ teammates and colleagues,” He said.

Skaggs last pitched five innings on Saturday in Anaheim. This season he was 7-7 with a 4.29 ERA.

There has not been any news as of yet how Skaggs died, but we will keep you updated when any additional information comes out.

The Angels were scheduled to play the Texas Rangers in Arlington on Monday night, The game has been cancelled.

The Angels pitcher grew up in the Los Angeles area, going to high school in Santa Monica.

Skaggs was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010, but was traded back to the Angels in 2013.

Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels have just lost one of their best starting pitchers and they now will have a three-man rotation including Andrew Heaney, Felix Pena, and Griffin Canning. Matt Harvey is on the 10-day Injured List.
