We’re once again approaching the 2019 MLB trade deadline and a number of interesting offers will be put upon the table. Here are some potential deals.

Before we jump into the 2019 MLB Trade Deadline, let’s discuss the current state of baseball. The current state of baseball would tell anyone who has been paying attention that the only true, legitimate assets are pitchers. It has been a number of years since a position player has received a haul in return.

The White Sox received Lucas Giolito for Adam Eaton and the Marlins have received an assortment of players for Christian Yelich, Marcel Ozuna, and J.T. Realmuto– although it has not been sorted yet if those returns were adequate. However, Chris Sale got Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech, Chris Archer unfathomably got Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow, and Jose Quintana by some miracle returned Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease.

There is a clear disparity between the two situations, even when the batter brings a successful return- which is often not the case- it is typically one piece. Each of the aforementioned pitcher deals has brought back two MLB contributors or highly touted prospects.

Therefore, much of this list will deal with starting and bullpen pitchers- both rentals and those under contract. A rental is obviously devalued due to an expiring contract and many of the teams competing for October are hoping to continue shaping this team for future years, not just this one.

The current perception around MLB is that sending assets away for someone that can only contribute for one season is a bad investment. Gone are the days when Carlos Beltran could fetch Zack Wheeler or Aroldis Chapman Gleyber Torres. These four proposals will reflect such trends.

With that, let’s take a look where the big names land this 2019 MLB Trade Deadline.
