The New York Yankees are in search of a top of the rotation arm and at least one reliever. This will be an exploration of their options and interests
The New York Yankees have now claimed the top record in the league and they, of course, are not satisfied. When a team is that good, they cannot remain content, they must fortify themselves to ensure that there is no doubt of defeat. However, such doubts can never be assuaged because the games must be played and there is a certain degree of fortune in that.
Due to this well-known fact, any team in this position must do anything they can to bolster their roster, so that there is no possible excuse for an ending that does not result in being awarded a trophy. The Yankees are no exception and they know this well.
They saw first hand how quickly the script flipped for the Indians in 2017, one missed opportunity and their chance could vanish, never to be found again. The Yankees current roster does not have the certainty the front office, the media, and the fanbase requires to enter the postseason, ready to take on anyone.
The lack of rotational depth without Luis Severino has been stunning and the once thought to be historic bullpen has suffered from the loss of Dellin Betances to injury. A reinforcement or two in each spot may be able to soothe any lingering doubts.
Madison Bumgarner seems like the easy target. He checks all of the boxes- ample postseason success, ability to manipulate the zone, and a rare competitive gene. However, he lacks the one thing that is a must in terms of trade discussions- a willingness for his team to deal him.
These upcoming names are options for the Yankees to add to their rotation and/or bullpen in order to construct a more stable roster.
