Why the San Diego Padres Need to Trade for Noah Syndergaard
The San Diego Padres have been searching for controllable starting pitching since the last off-season, and their best chance at acquiring one is now with Noah Syndergaard.
ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that the New York Mets are “seriously listening” to phone calls regarding Noah Syndergaard and the San Diego Padres are suitors.
I don’t think they necessarily need to trade for him during the season but they need to trade for him or a Trevor Bauer by the beginning of next season.

Syndergaard is in the prime of his career and even though there has been some injury history, he has stayed on the field recently.
He has a 4.36 ERA this season in nearly 120 innings pitched.
GM AJ Preller has been searching for controllable starting pitching for the better part of the last two seasons.
They were looking at Corey Kluber in the off-season but that deal never materialized.
In addition, they were looking at guys like Marcus Stroman and Trevor Bauer but since San Diego has drifted away from Wild Card contention, the playoff teams like the Astros and Yankees seem more interested in Stroman.
I still believe the San Diego Padres have a good chance at dealing for Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer in the coming winter because the Indians are currently holding one of the American League Wild Card spots so they wouldn’t want to trade away their ace going down the stretch.
San Diego should trade for Syndergaard because they would have him for two additional years past 2019 and would have a decent chance at extending him.
They have the youngest rotation in the league with rookie ace Chris Paddack, Joey Lucchesi, Eric Lauer, Dinelson Lamet, and Adrian Morejon.
Adding Syndergaard would give San Diego a true ace that could attract free agents in the coming years.
It would also make the bullpen much deeper because if they add a starter then one of the highly talented starters would go down to the bullpen and lengthen it out a little more.
Adding him would also send a message to the clubhouse, saying that the front office believes in them and that even though this season may be close to over they will have a solid chance at their first postseason birth since 2006.
