The Texas Rangers have one of the better value starting pitchers who is still on the market today in Mike Minor.

Mike Minor, a starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers, is still out there on the trade market and with the deadline approaching on Wednesday, you can bet several teams are calling to see what it will take to get him.

Minor is having arguably the best season of his 8-year career as a starter, going 8-6 with a 3.00 ERA and 136 strikeouts.  He is also proving to be one of the more durable pitchers in the league as he leads the league in complete games at 2.  He was also named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

One of the more attractive pieces of this puzzle is that Minor is signed through next season, which means he’s not just a one-year rental, which is what most teams want.  Unfortunately, the difficult piece here is the fact that Minor has a partial no-trade clause which names 10 teams, but we’re not sure which teams made that list.

Now there are several teams who are looking for starting pitching, particularly the New York Yankees, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Minnesota Twins.  All three teams are in the thick of the postseason race.

The Brewers are the team with the biggest need at pitcher as they rank 20th in the league with a team ERA at 4.68.  Their starting rotation consists of Zach Davies (3.56 ERA), Brandon Woodruff (3.75), Jhoulys Chacin (5.79) and Chase Anderson (3.89).

The New York Yankees would be next with a team ERA of 4.39.  Their starters’ ERA are much worse than the Brewers with Masahiro Tanaka (4.79), J.A. Happ (5.23), James Paxton (4.72), Domingo German (4.08) and C.C. Sabathia (4.78).

The Minnesota Twins have a team ERA of 4.05.  Their rotation consists of Jose Berrios (2.94), Kyle Gibson (4.10), Jake Odorizzi (3.84), Michael Pineda (4.30) and Martin Perez (4.38).

Of these three teams, I really think it’s the Twins or Yankees.  The reason is they are closer to winning and securing postseason berths.  The Yankees are desperate for starting pitching and the Twins are desperate for some experience.

I think at the end of the day it depends on who’s willing to give more to get him.  It also depends on if the Yankees make a play for Robbie Ray, but he didn’t impress in his start yesterday.  I see Texas Rangers starter Mike Minor ending up in Yankees pinstripes unless they are on his no-trade clause.
