The New York Yankees haven’t had great starting pitching or a dominant bullpen this season, and their deadline plan was to acquire an impact pitcher, but they failed to do so miserably.
New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman was not afraid about saying he was going to get pitching at the deadline. But he didn’t do it.
Luis Severino has yet to come back from injury, CC Sabathia is on the Injured List. New York will be going into the postseason with Masahiro Tanaka and Domingo German starting the first 2 games in October.
Tanaka was taken out of his start on Wednesday in the 5th inning, and Aaron Boone let the bullpen take over.

If I were a Yankee fan I would be furious with the front office.
There were so many starting pitchers, even marginal starting pitchers, that were either acquired by a Wild Card contender or by nobody at all.
New York had the farm system to go after Madison Bumgarner, Noah Syndergaard, Zack Greinke, Zack Wheeler, Robbie Ray, Matthew Boyd, and Mike Leake but did not do it.
And the worst part is the Astros got Zack Greinke! Greinke is the #3 starter for the Houston Astros.
You cannot win a World Series with just a good bullpen and a mediocre rotation like the Yankees have.
Look, history shows that you can win or lose a World Series at the Trade Deadline. In 2015, Johny Cueto went from Cincinnatti to the Royals and won a World Series.
In 2016, Aroldis Chapman came from the Yankees and won the Cubs a World Series.
In 2017, Justin Verlander was traded at the last minute to the Astros and was THE primary reason that Houston won the World Series.
In 2018, the Red Sox acquired Nathan Eovaldi and beat the Yankees in the postseason and they won the World Series.
But despite that, the New York Yankees did not make any starting pitching additions or bullpen additions and they will pay the price for it this October.
