The Washington Nationals have been searching for bullpen help before the deadline and have acquired a reliever.

The Washington Nationals have acquired Daniel Hudson from the Toronto Blue Jays, according to TSN. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Nats are also seriously looking to trade for Seattle’s left-hander Roenis Elias.

Hunter Strickland is also on the move to Washington from Seattle.

GM Mike Rizzo has been searching for bullpen help to stabilize the back end of the bullpen to get the ball to closer Sean Doolittle. With Hudson, 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 2019 with Toronto, the Nats are hoping that some of their bullpen issues will be resolved.

Washington now has a decent bullpen, headlined by Fernando Rodney, Daniel Hudson, and Sean Doolittle. The Toronto Blue Jays have also been taking calls on Ken Giles, but since then he has had a cortisone shot in his right elbow.

Hudson is a nice piece for the bullpen but the Nats will not be done. Mike Rizzo has been adamant about getting two relievers–one left and one right-handed.

The Nats have also tried to get Detroit’s closer Shane Green but the Tigers are asking for top prospect Carter Kieboom, so Washington has been reluctant to deal him as of this moment.

Green has another year of control with an ERA just above 1 in 2019.

Currently, the Washington Nationals are within 5.5 games of the division and hold possession of a Wild Card slot, but only by 0.5 games. This is not exactly the position the team felt it would be in, and is turning out to be a pleasant surprise for fans that though the team was finished earlier in the season.
