Minnesota Twins: Sam Dyson having rough start to Twins tenure
How do the Minnesota Twins spell relief? Thus far, it has not been San Dyson.
Heading into the trade deadline, Sam Dyson was a highly sought after commodity. A solid reliever who limits walks and has closing experience, he was one of several players that the Minnesota Twins brought in to strengthen their bullpen for the postseason push. Although he was not expected to be a part of the ninth inning, Dyson would still play an important role in the Twins’ relief corps.
However, his first two outings with the Twins have not gone according to plan. Instead of being the lockdown reliever that Minnesota expected, Dyson has done his best Trevor Rosenthal impression.
Yes, those numbers are rough, but let us focus on the positives. In his first outing with the Twins, Dyson allowed three runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out. At least he was able to retire two batters in his most recent appearance!

Dyson had been quite the solid reliever for the Giants before being sent to Minnesota. Since being acquired from the Rangers, he had posted a 2.74 ERA and a 1.105 WHiP, striking out 130 batters with just 45 walks, five of which were intentional, in 159.1 innings.
That success had continued this season. Prior to the trade, Dyson posted a 2.47 ERA and a 0.902 WHiP with San Francisco, while notching 17 holds. Over his 51 innings, Dyson struck out 47 batters, while issuing a paltry seven walks. That is the type of performance that the Twins had been looking for.
It is likely that Dyson will return to form. Chances are, he is adjusting to the new league and his new surroundings, both of which can take time. However, with the Twins chasing a postseason berth, and the Indians within striking distance, Minnesota has to hope that transition period will not take long.
Sam Dyson has not had a strong start to his time with the Minnesota Twins. His track record indicates this is an aberration, which the Twins have to hope is the case.
