The New York Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball at this moment after what was seen as a lost season around the All-Star break.

So I’m typing words I never thought I would type this season, especially about the New York Mets.  They are the hottest team in baseball.  Yes, you read that right, the Mets are the hottest team in baseball.

They are 9-1 in their last 10 games with a four game win streak and are over the .500 mark for the first time in quite some time, May 2nd to be correct.  They are also a major league best 16-6 since the All-Star break.

All of this wouldn’t be that crazy except for everyone completely wrote the Mets off this season.  That they were a dumpster fire that no one could put out.  Everyone questioned the deal to add Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays while keeping both Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard at the trade deadline.

It sure looks like this is leading to something or at least making the NL Wild Card race that more interesting.  If the Mets get a Wild Card spot, you have to give them a chance, simply for the fact they can have either deGrom or Syndergaard throw and they always have a chance when either of those two are pitching.

Pete Alonso is leading an offensive resurgence, slashing .259/.363/.585 with 35 home runs and 80 RBI’s.  The team currently sits at 14th in the league with a team batting average of .253, lead by left fielder Jeff McNeil, who is hitting .337, good enough to lead the Majors to this point.

McNeil, who is in his second season in the bigs is slashing .337/.402/.532 with 14 home runs and 50 RBI’s, was named an All-Star for the first time this year.

If they continue to improve their play this season, the New York Mets could very well nab one of the Wild Card spots.  If that happens, they will not make it far in the playoffs, but one game is better than none and it also sets them up for continued success next season.
