Philadelphia Phillies play reverse card with Adam Haseley
Remember the reverse card from Uno? The Philadelphia Phillies played that on Adam Haseley on Friday.
Back on Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies shuffled their outfield. Jay Bruce had returned from the Injured List, his right oblique strain having healed. With his return to the lineup, the Phillies sent outfielder Adam Haseley back to AAA, freeing up a spot on the 25 man roster.
As it turns out, Bruce’s return to the lineup lasted for one day. After going 0-3 with a strikeout, Bruce was placed back on the IL, this time with a flexor strain in his left arm. In his place? Well, Haseley is back.
Typically, when a player is sent down, they have to remain in the minors for at least ten days. The caveat is if there is an injury, necessitating that the player returns sooner. Considering that Haseley had been sent to the minors just a day ago, one has to hope that he had not unpacked.

When he has been able to be a part of the Phillies lineup, Bruce has been the power bat they had hoped for. Since his acquisition from the Mariners, he has produced a .250/.266/.550 batting line, belting ten homers in his 124 plate appearances.
While Haseley is not close to the same player, he had acquitted himself well in his time in the majors this year. Over the course of his 89 plate appearances, Haseley has produced a respectable .274/.315/.452 batting line, hitting three homers and six doubles. He also has the advantage of being able to play all three outfield positions, providing more defensive versatility than Bruce.
Although the Phillies need the power that Bruce can provide, Haseley may actually be a better fit for the makeup of the roster. Corey Dickerson has the starting role in left, and Bryce Harper is a mainstay in right. Bruce cannot play center, and Roman Quinn had been the only real center fielder on the roster with Haseley back in AAA.
The Philadelphia Phillies had activated Jay Bruce, and sent Adam Haseley back to AAA on Thursday. Just one day later, those transactions were reversed.
