Two of Cincinnati Reds phenom Aristides Aquino’s five home runs against the Chicago Cubs are among the week’s 25 longest home runs in MLB.
You can ask the Chicago Cubs all about rookie phenom Aristides Aquino, but you may not get a civil answer. Since his post-MLB All-Star break callup, Aquino has set about destroying National League pitching. This weekend he made the division-leading Cubs his special project.
Thursday in a 12-5 loss, Aquino lit up Cubs starter Cole Hamels for a 445 foot home run that fled the field at a nuclear 118.5 mph. That equaled the year’s hardest-hit home run.
Friday night Aquino homered again as the Reds won 5-2. And on Saturday, he went deep off Kyle Hendricks in each of his first three plate appearances, including a 452-footer, the week’s ninth longest.

That gave Aquino seven home runs in his first 10 games, five of them against the Cubs.
Even at 452 feet, Aquino couldn’t reach the pinnacle of this week’s list. That spot went to Astros shortstop Carlos Correa, who ripped a 474-footer off Baltimore’s Aaron brooks in Houston’s 23-2 pasting of the Orioles.
Correa’s blast edged out Chicago Cubs second baseman Ian Happ’s 474-footer against Oakland Monday at Wrigley Field because Correa’s went out at 111.5 mph, while Happ had to content himself with 108.6 mph.
The list measures the longest home runs as calculated by Statcast. Where ties exist, they are broken by exit velocity.
To make the list of the longest 25, an MLB player had to go inordinately deep this week – 443 feet at a minimum. The average distance of those 25 longest shots was a sprawling 451.36 feet.
