The Tampa Bay Rays received promising news about the possible September return of their two aces, Tyler Glasnow, and Blake Snell.

The Tampa Bay Rays have not been immune to the injury bug this season, especially in their starting rotation.  Both Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell went out with injuries, but now both are on track to make September returns to the team.

Glasnow has been out since May 10th with what was diagnosed as a mild right forearm strain that was only supposed to keep him out for 4-6 weeks but has gone on for three months.  He is scheduled to throw live batting practice today.

That would be followed by a rehab start possibly Friday should everything go well and then a possible return to the major league club the second week of September.

According to Rays’ manager Kevin Cash, Blake Snell is about 10 days behind Glasnow in his rehab start, which would put his target return the third or fourth week of September.  That would be in time to make a start or two before a possible Wild Card game.

Despite the loss of these two pitchers, arguably their best pitchers, the Rays have managed to stay in contention.  They are in a three-team race for the two Wild Card spots with the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics.

Getting both Snell and Glasnow back would be a shot in the arm to the team and would give them the best chance at securing one of those spots.

Snell to this point in the season is 6-7 with a 4.28 ERA and 136 strikeouts.  This ERA is pretty inflated after his Cy Young award-winning season last year when he had a 1.89 ERA.  If he can even pitch half as good as his season last year, this gives the Rays a chance.

The Glasnow injury really hurt as he was pitching phenomenally up until his injury.  He is 6-1 with a 1.86 ERA and 55 strikeouts in only 48 innings pitched.  Who knows how great of a season he would have had without the injury.

One thing for sure is the American League better look out if the Tampa Bay Rays get both of these guys back before the playoffs because Snell and Glasnow make the Rays instantly title contenders.
