Jeff Passan reported that executives are “expecting monster names to be in trade talks” including Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, but will he actually be traded?

Chicago Cubs fans are reading this right now and thinking, “The Cubs are not really going to trade Kris Bryant are they?”

Well, I can tell you that it is a greater possibility than you think.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that some executives believe Kris Bryant will be in trade talks. It isn’t just him though as Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor may also be in them as well.

Kris Bryant is the most intriguing name to me because of his team’s situation and I will get into that shortly.

The Cubs are going to be arguably the most intriguing team this off-season. Their current manager Joe Maddon may or may not come back to be the manager.

If he doesn’t come back it is because they want a new dynamic in the clubhouse. If he does come back then it may be more likely Bryant is traded because the front office is obviously saying “the manager is not the problem.”

Javier Baez is definitely transitioning himself into the face of the Cubs although Bryant won the MVP in 2017.

That doesn’t leave Bryant in the best situation if he wants to stay in Chicago.

His agent is none other than Scott Boras, who is famous for making his clients test the Free Agent market in the off-season.

If Bryant is prone to test the market, then it is in Theo Epstein’s best interest to get back very talented players to not just bolster their farm system but try to get back some equivalent of the pieces they traded away like Gleyber Torres.

All of this talk doesn’t mean Bryant will be traded, but it makes a whole lot of sense of the Chicago Cubs if they decide to go in one direction instead of another after October.
