As the Milwaukee Brewers sit just one game back of a wild card, here’s why they have a great chance to beat out the Chicago Cubs for a postseason spot.

The Chicago Cubs are already without their star shortstop Javier Baez and are most likely going to be without another power bat in Anthony Rizzo after he rolled his ankle while attempting to field a bunt in Sunday afternoon’s win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Add the injury woes to their tough schedule, that includes seven matchups against the NL Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals, is why the Milwaukee Brewers have a great chance to surpass the Cubs for a wild card.

The Brewers, on the other hand, have been playing great, winning the series against the Cardinals over the weekend and winning seven in a row before they played the Cardinals.

You could say that they have an easy schedule remaining. They play all non-contending teams: 3 with the San Diego Padres, 3 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3 with the Cincinnati Reds, and finally 3 in Colorado with Nolan Arenado and the Rockies.

Milwaukee enters that easy schedule in a one-game hole behind the Cubs for a Wild Card spot.

It also is more than a fair question to ask if they will win the division.

As I mentioned while the Cubs and Cardinals are beating each other up in their seven remaining head to head matchups, and let’s say the Cardinals go 4-3, then the Brewers could easily win the Central if they pull off a decent winning streak against non-contending teams, which is entirely possible.

And let’s remember they are in this position without reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich.

So, while everyone is talking about if the Cubs will beat the Cardinals out for the division, the Milwaukee Brewers could just sneak right past both of them due to their easy schedule.
