Houston Astros: Jose Altuve ties Chase Utley’s Postseason HR Record

When it comes to dominant second basemen in the Postseason, Houston Astros star Jose Altuve should be the first name to be mentioned.

Jose Altuve is currently in his fourth postseason campaign and eighth playoff series with the Houston Astros. In game three of the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays, the six-time All-Star hit his 10th career postseason home run, tying Philadelphia Phillies’ legend Chase Utley for the most postseason home runs all-time by a second baseman.

Utley went to the postseason eight times in his career, five times with the Phillies and three times with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played in 69 postseason games.

On the other hand, Altuve is not even 30 and already has 10 home runs during the postseason. He has been one of the most dominant second basemen of this decade and is a threat during the regular season and October.

Altuve hit 31 home runs in 2019, a career high., despite only playing in 124 games. Altuve’s power has been on display and more present this season.

The 29-year-old looks to hit his 11th home run and take sole possession of the postseason home run record by a second baseman.

Not only is he looking for another postseason home run, but Altuve is also ready to bring Houston back to the American League Championship Series for the third season in a row.

Nine years into his career, Altuve is already building a Hall of Fame resume. With four consecutive 200-hit seasons, an MVP, and a World Series ring, and five Silver Slugger awards. His .315 career batting average speaks for itself. His playoff career will help put him over the edge when the time comes.
