The Cardinals scored TEN runs in the first inning, something that is going down as one of the worst moments in Atlanta Braves history.
The St. Louis Cardinals sent 14 batters to the plate–in the first inning. Jack Flaherty walked!
That was just some of the details in what was a very eventful inning for the Cardinals.
Mike Foltynewicz walked Dexter Fowler to begin one of the most epic meltdowns to start a game anyone has ever seen. It was 26 minutes of torture for Atlanta Braves fans so here’s how it unfolded.
Kolten Wong bunted over Fowler to second so there was one out.
Paul Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna singled to produce the first run. Freddie Freeman made a costly error that could have ended the inning on a possible double-play ball.

The bases were loaded on a Matt Carpenter walk and then the hit parade began.
Tommy Edman doubled down the right-field line to score 2. Max Fried entered the game after Foltynewicz failed to record more than one out.
Fried wasn’t too good out of the gate either, as he walked the pitcher (yes the pitcher) Jack Flaherty to bring in another run. It was only five runs which were just half of what they would get.
Dexter Fowler, in his second at-bat of the inning, doubled down the right-field line scoring two more. After another mound visit by the pitching coach, Kolten Wong delivered a gut-wrenching double into the left-center gap to score two more runs.
The second out was FINALLY recorded when Marcell Ozuna lined out to Nick Markakis. After that Molina was retired to end what would be the most runs scored in the first inning in postseason history.
All of this happened before Flaherty, the Cardinals ace, even took the mound.
I would say that Atlanta Braves fans want a refund after what transpired in the first.
