While San Diego Padres GM A.J. Preller seems to want Jayce Tingler as the team’s next manager, owner Ron Fowler wants the experienced Ron Washington.

A.J. Preller hired Andy Green to be the San Diego Padres manager because he thought he was going to be the young voice that could relate to all players.

Well, we all know how that worked.

But Preller really wants to prove to ownership that his plan is going to work. That a young analytical manager can lead his team to a World Series.

More from Call to the Pen

He wants Jayce Tingler as his manager to lead a young team who is trying to make it to the postseason for the first time since 2006.

For context, he wants Tingler as the manager because they worked together in Texas while Preller was with the Rangers organization, so he loves him.

Tingler is currently a coach on the major league staff who has a background in player development.

Hmmm.. That sounds like another type of Andy Green to me.

Ron Fowler, on the other hand, has voiced his displeasure with how Green managed the second half and how it seemed like there wasn’t any motivation for the players.

So, he wants an experienced manager who will gain instant respect from everyone in the fly house—from the rookies all the way up to the Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer’s.

Fowler should win this battle because he is the owner and if Preller wants to win a championship I don’t believe Fowler will let Ti glee be the manager.

Now, if Tingler was Ron Washington’s bench coach, then that would be a good fit but I think you are asking for way too many things to go right if Jayce Tingler would be the manager when all fans have been hearing is that the organization wants an experienced manager.
