Jayce Tingler is seen as the favorite for the San Diego Padres manager job. However, his inexperience is why he isn’t fit to be the next manager.

A.J. Preller loves his former Texas Rangers guys. He brought over multiple people from the Rangers organization when he left for the San Diego Padres job, and he wants to bring another one.

Jon Heyman reported yesterday that “many folks around baseball believe AJ Preller will pick Jayce Tingler… to be the Padres next manager” and that he “is seen as [the] favorite.”

As I wrote on Wednesday, the battle for the managerial job might not be Jayce Tingler vs Ron Washington as much as it is AJ Preller vs Ron Fowler.

Preller really wants to prove to his boss that his method is going to work despite the failure of Andy Green‘s tenure in San Diego.

Preller wants to hire another Andy Green to be the next manager to prove that his method will work but it is not the smart or safe thing to do.

He wants Fowler to take another shot and let a young analytical minded coach be the leader in the clubhouse while they have a chance at hiring a guy who has previous managing experience and he wasn’t just an average manager.

We are talking about a great manager who led the Rangers to two World Series appearances and was known for his good communication skills in addition to his ability to improve infielders fielding.

If the San Diego Padres were to go the Tingler route, I think you would be asking for way too many things to go right.

Hiring a manager with NO major league managing experience instead of hiring someone who is much more respected and therefore would earn instant respect from everyone in the room would be a bad idea. A key factor that players like Manny Machado were hoping for in their next skipper was experience so we will see if they get their wish.
