Jayce Tingler is the next manager of the San Diego Padres, and it is crystal clear that they blew this managerial hiring.
Andy Green was fired before the season even ended because San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller did not want to waste any time to find a new manager.
Well, he might have just wasted the prime careers of Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Eric Hosmer with the managerial hiring of Jayce Tingler.
Because the Padres just hired a glorified version of Andy Green.

At the introductory press conference of Andy Green as manager, Preller said this about him.
“He’s a guy we feel could connect with our guys and take our organization to a different level.”
Well, I guarantee that is what he is going to say when introducing Jayce Tingler.
Jayce Tingler and Ron Washington were the two finalists in the Padres managerial race and as I wrote earlier, the battle for the manager was between owner Ron Fowler and GM A.J. Preller.
Kevin Acee of the SD-UT reported on Wednesday night that Preller was in the Dominican Republic spending time with Kevin Acee and that he was pulling for Tingler for a long time now.
San Diego could’ve opted for a guy who had 8 years of managerial experience with the Rangers, and by the way won 2 American League Pennants as well.
But they opted for the guy with no managerial experience in the big leagues and who was the player development coordinator of the Texas Rangers.
This hire could cost A.J. Preller his job if the team doesn’t improve this season, and I don’t see them vastly improving with Jayce Tingler at the top step.
I am confused to why Ron Fowler didn’t step in and say that Tingler probably isn’t the best choice to lead the team, especially when players like Manny Machado voiced their displeasure before the season ended on having a manager with no experience.
Tingler is the 6th straight manager the Padres have hired without managerial experience.
The San Diego Padres made it clear with this hire that they are still more interested in developing players than making the postseason, even though their window of contention is opening this season.
