The Boston Red Sox have reportedly hired Chaim Bloom as the team’s new general manager.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Boston Red Sox and Chaim Bloom are reportedly finalizing a deal that would make Bloom general manager.

Chaim Bloom had previously been serving as the VP of baseball operations for the Tampa Bay Rays since 2014. Before being promoted to VP, he had served in several other roles within the organization.

He had spent the majority of his career with the Rays organization. Bloom is highly-regarded around the league and it seems as if this move will be a great hire for the Red Sox, who fired Dave Dombrowski earlier this year in the middle of the night following a Boston loss after serving many seasons with the team.

Boston has been working to find a replacement since, and it looks like they’ve finally found one.

He had worked with now Andrew Friedman before he left to join the Los Angeles Dodgers front office in 2014. He replaced Freidman has the Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bloom has built quite the reputation around the baseball world, with many former and current colleagues saying honorable qualities about the 38-year-old Philadelphia native.

Bloom will go from the Tampa Bay Rays, who have the lowest payroll in the league, to the Boston Red Sox who have the highest payroll in the league. Boston’s payroll is $166 million.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan called him the most well-regarded executive in baseball without a GM title. The Boston Red Sox have clearly made a good choice and fans are happy about it too. Hopefully, this hire will bring another championship to Boston within the next few years as Boston is recovering from a bad season in which they missed the postseason.
