After a report claiming the Houston Astros were illegally stealing signs from center field, it is clear that they are ruining baseball as we know it.
Ok. This is getting to be too much. After the whole Brandon Taubman domestic violence situation in the World Series, there is another report of the Houston Astros doing something wrong–again.
The Athletic (subscription required) reported on Tuesday that four players, including Mike Fiers, on the 2017 World Series winning Houston Astros team admitted that their club stole signs using illegal electronics during games. The Astros would look at a monitor in the tunnel to see what a catcher’s signs were and then if it was a breaking ball or changeup they would bang a trash can to alert the hitter.
Part of the report detailed the basic problem here which is this: “Four people who were with the Astros in 2017, including pitcher Mike Fiers, said that during that season, the Astros stole signs during home games in real-time with the aid of a camera positioned in the outfield.”

If you remember the Astros were caught by the Cleveland Indians in the postseason a couple of years back using a camera near the Cleveland dugout to try to discover the other team’s signs.
Now, there is another report of the Astros stealing signs. There is a common theme and it is plain and simple.
The Houston Astros have shown that they will do whatever is necessary to win, regardless of if it is legal or not.
I am sorry but the Houston Astros are ruining baseball. There was a report from The Athletic earlier this year amid the Brandon Taubman controversy that detailed how the Houston Astros front office operates.
Here is a stunning excerpt:
“Toxic. Eats you alive,” said one of more than 10 current and former Astros employees The Athletic spoke to this week about the Astros Way. “Cutthroat. Secretive. Not fun. But, winning, being first, innovative.”
GM Jeff Luhnow had a great reputation before this season, and now I think there are a lot of teams that do not like him very much anymore based on recent events.
He is part of an Astros organization that is ruining the game by cheating in order to win. If they have to cheat in the postseason, then Luhnow must know that his team isn’t good enough which means he isn’t doing his job and it is ironic because everything gets pinned on him.
Like Mike Fiers put it in the article I mentioned above, the Houston Astros aren’t playing the game the right way and it needs to stop because if there is a team like them that is willing to go over and beyond to win, then it will make the game a lot less enjoyable.
