The New York Yankees have a very specific need, and their fan base would be more than happy if they filled it with this player.

Brian Cashman knows that he has a job to do this winter, and that is to fill a big need. One that the New York Yankees fan base is itching to see pop up on their phones.

And that is starting pitching. More specifically Gerrit Cole.

The Los Angeles Angels are reportedly going to give Cole whatever it takes to lure him back home to play alongside the best player in baseball, Mike Trout, but Yankees fans don’t care. They want the big fish on the market especially when they didn’t win the World Series at all in the last decade.

New York has a decent rotation that includes Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino, and James Paxton but it isn’t as good as it needs to be in order to win the World Series. But if they were to acquire Gerrit Cole it would make them the favorites in the American League East and likely all of the American League.

More from Call to the Pen

Cole did not lose a game in the regular season after May 22, and he only raised his price tag in the postseason.

But as I said, no Yankee fan cares how much the price is, they want Gerrit Cole because they want that 28th ring.

Hal Steinbrenner’s last big contract was to outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and we all know how that played out, so that might be a factor as to why he might be reluctant to spend north of $200 million on a guy who won’t even play every day.

But Cole is different than every other starter in the league. Aaron Boone won’t have to get his bullpen up in the fifth inning. When Cole is on the mound, the bullpen won’t be getting up to stretch until the seventh inning, which is something every manager would die for.

dark. Next. Yankees about to go to war with Ellsbury

The New York Yankees fans priority is Gerrit Cole, but the big question is if Gerrit Cole is ownership’s #1 priority.
