The New York Mets finally made a move and it was to acquire outfield help, trading for Jake Marisnick.
This is probably not the big signing New York Mets‘ fans were hoping for, but the team acquired Jake Marisnick from the Houston Astros in exchange for LHP Blake Taylor and OF Kenedy Corona.
Marisnick is will more than likely be asked to split time with current outfielder Brandon Nimno as well as spotting all the outfielder positions, allowing them to be more dynamic and flexible when giving guys days off.
Marisnick is coming off a successful postseason appearance with the Astros, slashing .375/.444/.375 during the World Series with 3 hits in 8 plate appearances.

His career numbers are .227/.280/.380 with 54 home runs and 178 RBI’s in 7 seasons. He has mostly been used as a utility man through his years and this is the role he’ll fill with the Mets. He does have 73 stolen bases and is one of the best defensive center fielders in the game.
Now that they have acquired help in the outfield, they need to return their focus to replacing Zack Wheeler. The front end of their rotation is as good as ever, but the back of it now lacks depth and could end up hurting them in the end.
The two prospects the Mets gave up are not in their Top 30 prospects, so they received good value for the type of prospects Taylor and Corona are. Taylor was recently named to the 40-man roster, but his success has been a mixed bag.
He spent last season between every minor league affiliate in the Mets organization and finished with a 2-3 record, a 2.16 ERA in 40 relief appearances. Corona is in his first year in the minors and is 19 years old from Venezuela. He bounced around the lower levels, but slashed a respectable .301/.398/.470 with 5 home runs and 29 RBI’s in 63 games.
