Gerrit Cole rumors are starting to fly, particularly that he has already decided upon the Yankees. Here is what you need to know.

MLB Network insider Jon Heyman tweeted out on Saturday morning that the New York Yankees have their “total focus” on Gerrit Cole and they “don’t want to be denied.” Then shortly after Peter Gammons came out with a tweet saying, “Jon is right. They were not denied. Dodgers, Angels will soon learn.”

Of course, Gammons’ tweet is implying that Heyman was correct when saying that the Yankees weren’t denied.

My reaction to this was that I wasn’t expecting Peter Gammons to break the news, so I was curious to how factual this was but Gammons has been long respected in the business so you have to take him seriously.

Jeff Passan of ESPN came out shortly after Gammons’ tweet and said that teams will “be making initial offers in the coming days.” The three favorites are the Dodgers, Angels, and Yankees, according to Passan.

With these conflicting reports, it is hard to know what Gerrit Cole’s decision is going to be because some believe that there’s no way he doesn’t go to the Yankees, as the money will be there but then some still think the Angels have a legit shot at getting him.

Cole grew up a Yankees fan so it was a logical fit and Brian Cashman seemed set on signing him. This past week he flew out with a contingent that included Andy Petitte, Aaron Boone, and others out to Southern California for meetings with Cole and Strasburg.

Then, he flew back to New York to participate in an event where he will rappel off a building before heading back out to the West Coast where the Winter Meetings are set to be held in San Diego.
