After Stephen Strasburg signed a 7-year deal worth $245 million, the Gerrit Cole market us heating up and teams are desperate for an arm like his.
Stephen Strasburg is a very good pitcher, but he got a little more than people thought he was going to receive. People within the industry thought that Strasburg would get a little over $200 million, but he nearly $50 million more. Makes you wonder what will Gerrit Cole get?
And therefore, it is clear to say that the Cole market is going to heat up and heat up fast because there aren’t many arms out there that are the caliber of his.
According to Jon Heyman, the Cole camp is trying to get a 9-10 year deal, which means that it will be way more than Strasburg’s deal if his was for $245 million for just 7 years.

Cole was projected to get around the $280 million range, and the New York Yankees’ first offer is the exact amount of money Strasburg got, so their offer is going to have to go way up in order for Cole to accept.
The reason why Cole is poised to get around $300 million now is that he is two years younger, has no recent injury history, is coming off a Cy Young in 2019, and was even more spectacular than Strasburg was the last couple of seasons.
Another factor is that the Strasburg market seemed to be the Nationals and the Nationals only. The Yankees and Angels met with him, but their focus was entirely on Cole.
But with Cole, there are multiple teams bidding on him, and Scott Boras is certainly going to drive up the price, and I believe he could get $300 million.

The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels are going to have to pay up if they want to add the best starter in the game to their rotation, and it definitely is not going to be cheap.
