The Boston Red Sox are reportedly not shopping Mookie Betts but they could get a big return back so why aren’t they shopping him?

According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, the Boston Red Sox are not actively shopping Mookie Betts at this time. But Betts has been the topic of trade conversations for the majority of the winter.

We all know that Betts is a premier talent–in a tier just below Mike Trout–so he would obviously bring back a huge haul. The Red Sox are not very deep in the bullpen so they could bring back some high upside arms back in a trade, as I suggested earlier this month.

So why are the Red Sox not shopping one of the best players in the game? Well, because he is one of the best players in the game.

Betts, the 2018 AL MVP, is the anchor of the lineup and he is the one that gets things going at the top, and while some people are only looking at the Yankees in the division I believe Boston still has a contending team.

Chris Sale, David Price, and Eduardo Rodriguez are currently heading the rotation with Nathan Eovaldi behind them as well. Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts represent the left side of the infield, which is one of the best in all of the American League.

Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, and Jackie Bradley Jr. make up one of the strongest overall outfields in the game.

So with all that said, I don’t blame Chaim Bloom for wanting to keep Betts because this club has the ability to contend with the Yankees as long as nearly everything falls into place.

Another factor is that if they keep Betts and don’t publicly try to trade him then he might take a little less to come back to Boston. He is going to get paid over $400 million in my opinion, so a few less million dollars isn’t going to hurt him.

The Boston Red Sox aren’t shopping Mookie Betts because they believe in the team they have, and they are trying to win, which shouldn’t be frowned upon.
