The Houston Astros are in big trouble with the sign-stealing investigation, and Carlos Correa didn’t help their cause with his recent comments.

Carlos Correa was the first Houston Astros player to actually give his thoughts on the sign-stealing allegations that were reported by The Athletic. And he didn’t help the Astros cause.

Speaking at an autograph show, Correa admitted he was “surprised” about former Astro and current Oakland Athletics starter Mike Fiers‘ comments.

“He’s a grown man, and he can do whatever he wants to do. It’s a free country. Knowing Fiers, it was surprising, because we were a team. We were all together, and we had a bond, and we won a World Series championship. But this is America, the land of the free. You can say what you want to say.”

Now, how did Correa hurt Houston’s cause? Because he did not deny the Astros cheated using electronics.

Not one person that was a part of the organization has actually denied the allegations that Fiers claimed, which gives Major League Baseball more ammo in handing out suspensions.

Correa’s comments also made it seem like he was being defensive and attacking Fiers. That is not something you want to do because it makes the Astros guilty.

His ex-teammate, Joe Musgrove, also made comments and he also never denied the Astros doing anything wrong–only that their championship shouldn’t be tainted.

“I don’t think that taints (anything),” Musgrove recently said. “I was in that clubhouse, and I watched how hard we worked every day. I watched the preparation we put in to study hitters and find out where they were tipping their pitches and whatnot. That’s all the stuff no one accounts for. Everyone hears that we cheated, and they hear that there was the whole trash can deal going on, but no one sees the work that we were putting in every day to prepare ourselves and give ourselves an advantage.”

Well, all we are judging the Astros on is what we did see and hear–the Houston Astros cheated and no one is denying it.
