Boston Red Sox Trade Mookie Betts to Los Angeles Dodgers
After days of anticipation, Mookie Betts is no longer a member of the Boston Red Sox. Here’s what we know about the 3-team trade heard ’round the world.
The Boston Red Sox have agreed to trade Mookie Betts and David Price to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Minnesota Twins are the third team involved.
The Red Sox will receive young outfielder Alex Verdugo as the centerpiece in the deal and more from the Dodgers. Starter Kenta Maeda is going to the Minnesota Twins. Hard-throwing pitching prospect Brudar Grarterol is going from Minnesota to the Red Sox.

Boston’s intent for this trade was to get under the luxury tax.
The Dodgers are receiving one of the best players in baseball in the 2018 AL MVP. A fantastic young outfielder that hits for average, power, plays elite defense and runs the bases well.
Significant cash is said to be involved in the deal that will go from the Red Sox to the Dodgers as well. Betts, 27, is owed $27 million in 2020, his last year before free agency. Price, 34, is owed $96 million over the next three years.
Betts is a four-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove winner, and three-time Silver Slugger. He has finished in the top eight on the AL MVP ballot in the last four seasons. Betts has led the AL in runs in the past two seasons.
David Price, the 2012 AL Cy Young award winner, will head to the National League for the first time in his career.
The Dodgers improve greatly now. They outbid the San Diego Padres in recent days by finally closing a deal with Boston. The Dodgers lost in the division series to the Washington Nationals, who went on to win the World Series.
The Dodgers were able to hold on to top pitching prospect Dustin May and young rising star second baseman Gavin Lux. The Dodgers are going to be favorites to win the National League and possibly the World Series after completing this deal.
Many Boston Red Sox fans are livid after the trade. Betts was a fan favorite and was the main reason why they won the 2018 World Series.
